Week 1: Planning and Initial Assembly

Embarking on a Robotic Revolution

This blog encapsulates our journey of making the Cubli. Our team comprises of Yuanpeng Li, Feijie Jia (team manager), Shaoxiang Wang, and myself, Sidharth Babani.

Strategic Planning and Role Distribution

In our first week we did majority of the planning. Roles were assigned according to the strengths of each member:

  • Yuanpeng Li, our hardware engineer, is in charge of the assembly. His precision and attention to detail were the main reasons he got this role.
  • Feijie Jia is the team manager. He orchestrated our efforts with his technical insight. His role was crucial in mapping out our project timeline and ensuring resources were aptly allocated.
  • Shaoxiang Wang was tasked with software development. He studied the coding fundamentals required for this project. His programming skills are set to bring our cube to life.
  • Sidharth Babani, besides documenting our journey, I delved into system design. My role intertwines with every aspect of the project to ensure our design's functionality.

The Initial Assembly

Venturing into the assembly phase, our lab was stressful. It presented new challenges. From trying to solder tiny components to configuring the software to run in our machines. Despite the obstacles, we were able to fix this in Week 2. We planned to get our PCBs populated from a factory.

Our sessions were not just productive but also moments of learning. Yuanpeng Li and Feijie Jia meticulous worked on the assembly. Shaoxiang Wang and Sidharth conducted the initial software tests.

Conclusion

As we conclude week 1, we had made a lot of progress. Feijie orederd the final PCB we needed, and it was set to arrive soon. We couldn’t wait for the challenges the next week would bring us. This blog will serve as your window into our world of learning and implementation. I aim on sharing not just our successes but also the lessons we learn.
